How You Can Help
Contribute Financially
Safe Haven relies heavily on support from our community. While 65% of our funding comes from state and federal sources, 35% is raised through contributions from United Ways, fundraising events, foundation grants and donations. A donation of $500 provides one week of shelter for a mother and two children, including food, clothing, personal items, counseling, advocacy and support groups; $250 provides one hour of art therapy for 16 children; $100 provides three weeks of support group for 10 women; and $50 provides court advocacy for three victims whose partners have been arrested.
Remember Safe Haven in your will.
All financial and material donations are tax deductible.

Volunteer Opportunities
Safe Haven realizes the significant contribution of volunteers and welcomes community involvement.
Direct Service
If you wish to work directly with victims, you will need to receive 40 hours of counselor certification training. Training is offered twice a year in January and June on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 5:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. There is a $50 fee for the training. Once you are trained, you may volunteer at the shelter, assist with activities for children, provide crisis intervention for sexual assault victims or co-facilitate support groups.
Special Events
Volunteers are needed for our two major events that are in late September and early October.
Golf
Our golf tournament is held in late September. Volunteers are needed to help recruit golfers, Tee sponsor and procure raffle prizes. Volunteers are also needed to help out on the day of the event.
House Tour
The House Tour is held on the first Saturday in October. Volunteers are needed to act as hostesses on day of the Tour.
Thrift Shop
The Southbury Community Thrift Shop relies on our volunteers. Volunteers are needed sorting and marking clothing, merchandising and sales. Working in the Thrift Shop offers volunteers the opportunity to meet new friends, get bargains on clothing and household items and help Safe Haven clients.
Board Members
Safe Haven is looking for community members to serve on the Board of Directors. (See link to Board of Directors).

Raise Community Awareness
Speakers
Safe Haven is pleased to provide any organization or business with a speaker who will elaborate on our services and the dynamics of abuse. There is no fee for this service.
Sponsor a Fundraising Event
Community organizations and clubs may wish to create their own fund raising initiative to support our families. Some groups choose us once, while others support us annually. At the end of the group's year, they may donate all or a portion of the money raised to Safe Haven. Safe Haven is happy to speak to any group about the need for their support. Suggested Goal: $1,000 - $5,000 per group.
